Keyboards went out of fashion hundreds of years ago, so I don’t know why I have to type. Normally, I just talk to the computer and the words will appear on the screen, but my mom convinced me to try to make a blog the old fashion way.
Recently, The Government has enacted many stupid laws. People are only allowed two children because of the population explosion (we are 90 billion and counting) and the global food shortages. The population will hopefully decrease with all of the people who are moving to space colonies. Even my parents are considering it. Everyone knows that The Government just wants to control Province 14, Region 23, the old Boulder County, because we have the most land and food.
Since the population law was registered, most kids go to a Province 14, Region 23 Child Learning Establishment. Before the population laws, kids were home-schooled in self contained educational units (or pods). With the touch screen walls and a virtual teacher, it’s like a personal tutor. The Province 14, Region 23 Child Learning Establishment isn’t too different from home school. We have pods too, but you feel like you’re in a cage because a thin, soundproof plexiglass cover conceals us from everyone else’s pods. We aren’t allowed to leave until we have “learned” everything scheduled for that day. Everyone at school is excited for the new virtual room. If you finish studying early, you can go to the virtual room to play games. With new 14-D technology, we actually go into the screen.
I could have gone to Cyber School, but Mom and Dad think that it’s for lazy people. I guess going to “school” instead of Cyber School has its perks. When kids graduate from The Establishment, they receive the X-smart microchip. It’s like a virtual college because this microchip transfers the information directly into your brain. You can also surf the internet and play games in your mind. I’m excited to graduate from the Establishment, because Mom and Dad will buy me a RoCa, the latest robotic car. I will finally be able to drive on the
My older brother Boy 3951826 has just left for the Liberty Military Force. All boys are required to attend The Province 14, Region 23 Liberty Force Training School for Boys and Young Men. It’s a really dumb idea, going back to the ancient practice of drafting every young man into the force. With all of the global wars, the Government needs more soldiers. Most parents want their daughters to go to the “school on the hill”. A large sign is hanging overhead that says “Colorado University;” however no one remembers what it means. I’m surprised that the large campus has survived this long. Now, it’s called The Aeronautic School for Girls. If you complete four years there, you can get a second microchip called “X2.” That microchip increases the amount of our brain that we use. We already use 20%, but this microchip can boost it up to 40%. It even comes with special features like mind reading and telepathy!
Our clothes are made from a newly invented fabric. It’s made of temperature adjusting material that repels dirt. This new fabric comes in all different styles and colors. It’s pretty smart technology, since you don’t have to wash them, its saves water. Everyone wears it (just like cotton back-in-the-day). When we get up in the morning, a robot makes breakfast. Robots are reliable in most jobs. They take care of the elderly, cook, clean and run all of our errands. However, sometimes they malfunction. Some people find it funny to hack into a robot’s system and cause it to drop a brick on its head or just sit down and do nothing. The robots are quite advanced and can almost be mistaken for humans.
Today our pods, taught us all about the history of “Boulder County.” It’s hard to imagine having a “race” called “The Bolder Boulder.” Now-a-days, we can’t actually have physical races because anyone can take medication to make them go faster. I just wonder what it would be like having “television” and “computers” or actually going to a building to be taught by a teacher. It’s pretty hard to imagine what it would be like without surgery where you don’t have to cut open the skin or lacking a special tablet that fixes your medical problems instantly. Sometimes, everyone wishes we could go back to those days when there weren’t any wars or over-flowing population.
However, our future is intriguing, dark, dangerous, and unknown. Sometimes it’s unclear and sometimes it’s right in front of us. No one knows what’s out there; so whatever is, we have to be ready for it. Tomorrow’s world starts with today.
